Charlie and Sandy Hackbarth's son, Andy Hackbarth, is an award-winning singer/songwriter and classical guitarist currently residing in Denver, Colorado. One of Soundsugar’s “Top 10 Artists of 2007,” and a finalist in the 2009 International Songwriting Competition, Hackbarth is in the middle of a 15-month tour, playing in locales as varied as New York City, Denver, Honolulu, and Los Angeles to promote his new album, "Lost In Reverie."
Hackbarth started playing the guitar at the age of seven, taking bluegrass lessons at the Great Divide Music Store in Aspen, Colorado until he discovered the classical guitar at the age of 11. He won a scholarship at the Aspen Music Festival, made his symphonic debut at age 15, and has studied with Julliard's Sharon Isbin as well as Ricardo Iznaola, Kevin Gallagher and others. Andy continued his studies at Lawrence University and the University of Colorado at Boulder, majoring in classical guitar performance.
Despite his aptitude as a classical student and performer, Hackbarth’s love of songwriting superseded his classical ambitions. In 2004 he formed the Boulder, CO-based folk/pop group Acoustic Radio, and, two years later, he moved to Nashville to pursue songwriting full-time. With a musical style influenced by the singer-songwriters of the seventies (the music he heard at home growing up) and the country music of his adopted hometown, Hackbarth’s albums are chock-full of genuine lyrics, great imagery and upbeat rhythms, all built upon an impressive mastery of the guitar. All three of his albums are available below, and clips of his songs, along with his tour schedule and press kit, are available on his website, AndyHackbarth.com.
"...What refreshing, smooth music for your soul, that enters your ear and exits through a wonderful exhale of fine listening. Andy Hackbarth, I am hitting the repeat as I type! Thanks for the musical smile." - Preshias Tomes (Nashville Music Journalist, Nashville Music Guide, CyberCountry.com)
